Abstract
Preventive management of vehicle interactions in open-pit mining requires transforming records generated by technological systems into useful inputs for decision-making. This study develops and applies a methodology oriented toward the preventive use of records generated by Hexagon’s Collision Avoidance System. The study is applied to four anonymized open-pit mining operations analyzed over a nominal six-month period. Historical CAS records are cleaned, consolidated, and spatially and operationally contextualized to identify relevant interaction patterns. Events are then classified according to levels of potential criticality, considering geometric criteria, equipment-pair composition, speed condition, and CAS temporal severity. On this basis, the conditions under which higher-potential-criticality interactions occur are analyzed, identifying differences among the operational contexts considered. The results show that the methodology enables historical alerts to be transformed into traceable and prioritizable inputs, useful for supporting operational review, differentiating conditions of greater preventive interest, and guiding prioritization in operational safety.
