Abstract
The current scenario worldwide, has led companies to go a step further in aspects of safety, quality and environment in their processes. For this reason, the idea of integrating safer processes for the operator to be sustainable with the environment maintaining or improving the quality of the processes is the focus of the different areas of Komatsu Company. With the intention of giving support at a Latin American level and improving the delivery times offered by Komatsu Germany, Komatsu Reman Center Chile implements the factory for hydraulic cylinders, for mine loaders of the fleet. From the beginning and up to the present, the electrolytic chromium plating has been maintained as the final process of surface coating, a process indicated by the factory.Electrolytic chrome is a process that due to its high water consumption, its emissions of carcinogenic gases and its little contribution to the care of the environment, must be eradicated from the company's processes, being the HVOF method, the best option for improvement, because it is controllable in aspects of safety and environment.During the development of this work, technical, environmental and safety aspects are approached for the migration of the electrolytic chromium process towards thermal spraying by the HVOF method. Comparative tables are established, where the differences of both methods can be appreciated in a simple way. In this way, the advantages and adversities of both chromium application methods can be clearly established. On the other hand, the necessary costs are exposed to carry out this project in the “Lo Boza” branch of KRCC.Finally a technical work procedure is established, to be able to execute the metallization by HVOF with chromium powders, indicating material that must be provided, adequate thicknesses and other parameters necessary for its execution.
