Abstract
The following project analyzes the currentsituation of entrepreneurship, internationally, nationally and within the Federico SantaMaría Technical University. At present, Chile actively values theimportance of this phenomenon for itsdevelopment, which leads it to positionitself worldwide in actions that promoteentrepreneurship.More in particular, there is a greatentrepreneurial potential in the professionalsof the Federico Santa María TechnicalUniversity, where most of its graduatesdeclare to have undertaken within the firstfive years of work experience.Within this same institutional context, theCareer of Product Design Engineering,is positioned as a promising seed ofentrepreneurs, declaring to deliver thenecessary tools to the engineers to beable to develop in this area. To this we addthe emphasis on the technology that theuniversity claims to have as a characteristicaxis of the training of its professionals, thus providing an ideal profile for the generationof technology-based ventures. The boom of entrepreneurship at theinternational level has led different disciplinesto want to study this phenomenon, so thatin this report review tools of measurementof entrepreneurship and innovation ofinternational renown. These instrumentsseek to measure nationally, to generatecomparisons between nations. Nevertheless,it is evident how incorrect it is to use a toolto measure different societies. This failurebecomes more evident when we placeourselves in a socio-technical framework, which reveals how society directs in someway or another the technological changesor how ideas and innovations emergeamong the actors that make up the technoeconomicnetworks in the developments oftechnological artifacts. Then, it is these elements that prove the needto build a tool for measuring entrepreneursaligned to the specific reality, such as theprojects developed by Engineers in ProductDesign. In this report, he realizes the theoreticalframework of socio-technical origin thatsupports the construction of a tool formeasuring entrepreneurship. In addition, the methodology used to translate differenttheories of sociology of technology, suchas Actor-Network Theory or the SocialConstruction of Technology (CST), ispresented at a conceptual level. As stated above, the role of social andindividuals is essential in the understandingof development dynamics, so this processconsiders stages of social validation of thesevariables. Finally the construction of this tool, isput to test, being applied to Engineersin Product Design that have developedentrepreneurship. This report then gives an account of theconstruction and outcome of this survey, providing details of the decisions takenduring this process, and recommendationsfor future application of the tool.
