Abstract
This thesis presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of an automated web application for visualization recommendation and explanatory narrative generation on tabular data. The web application integrates a deterministic engine —semantic inference, statistical profiling, candidate generation, and multi-objective ranking— with a constrained generative component (LLM) that enriches metadata and writes fact-grounded explanations. The proposed neuro-symbolic architecture strictly separates computation from language: the deterministic core ensures reproducibility and traceability, while the LLM provides semantic flexibility without fabricating statistics. The web application implements seven interestingness metrics, diverse selection through MMR, and explicit decision auditing. Validation was conducted on synthetic datasets from different domains, measuring suggestion relevance and diversity, response times, decision traceability, and factual faithfulness of the generated narratives. Results suggest that this approach can reduce the initial friction of EDA while maintaining human control and recommendation explainability.
