Abstract
Structured around a project from the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific and Technological Development, FONDEF D09I1174, called “Development of materials for asphalt retreads used in rehabilitating distressed pavements” adjudicated by the Civil Engineering Department of the Federico Santa María University, are asphalt mixes used in test tracks analyzed to find a way to improve the mixes implemented in asphalt retreads. These test tracks were made by Asfalcura S.A. between the km 47.563 and km 47.515 on the Autopista del Maipo highway. A sample of IV-A-12 modified mix was extracted from one of the trucks and lately tested to flexural fatigue tests. The results of those tests are presented in this study. The flexural fatigue test consists in loading a charge in four points into a beam with standardized dimensions until the failure position, which is when the load has achieved the 50% of the original beam resistance. This test is used to compare between different mixes and try to predict its lifetime in use. From the results obtained are determinate the ¿6 parameter (epsilon 6), an estimation of the deformation suffered by the beam after a million loading cycles, which, in this case is 319[µst] and the N500 parameter, that corresponds to the number of cycles tolerated by the beam at 500[µst] of deformation, which in this case in 58.035 cycles.Every test performed in this study included the confection of the beams were executed in the University establishments and based on the AASHTO-T321 standard.
