Abstract

The objective of the present work is the development of econometric models that allow generating forecasts of the daily variability of the index IPSA, the data which were used correspond to the squared daily profitability of the index IPSA for the period from 3 January 2005 to 19 November 2012. The time series has been modeled under the perspective of the ARMA models (Autoregressive Moving Average), ARFIMA (Autoregressive Fractionally Integrated Moving Average) GARCH (generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity) and SV (Stochastic Volatility). For the creation of the forecasts, a “rolling window” protocol was implemented for the forecast’s estimation of “one-day ahead” of the period. Using this strategy, forecasts were produced for the period from 02 May 2011 to 19 November 2012. For realizing the superior performance of a model in relation to other, statistical tests SPA were done, under the criteria of the MSE loss functions (mean squared error) and MAD (mean absolute deviation). The final evidence showed that the GARCH model presented the best performance in relation to the others studied models.
