Abstract
En este trabajo de grado en Ingeniería en Diseño de Productos, se expone un estudio detallado sobre el reciclaje y la conversión de plástico a recurso para la impresión en 3D. Primero, se llevó a cabo un análisis de la bibliografía vinculada al polipropileno, la polución de plásticos de uso único y la producción aditiva. Mediante métodos tanto teóricos como prácticos, se investigaron diversas estrategias y técnicas para tratar el reciclaje de los recipientes de polipropileno de un solo uso para la impresión en 3D. Luego, se desarrolló un procedimiento/servicio para reciclar dicho desecho plástico. Ello implicó recoger residuos en el campus, separarlos por paquetes y, posteriormente, exponerlo a tratamiento térmico y extrusión, para obtener filamento. Los hallazgos logrados demostraron la posibilidad de crear filamento a partir de envases de polipropileno reciclado en el campus.
In this undergraduate work in Product Design Engineering, a detailed study on the recycling and conversion of plastic to resource for 3D printing is presented. First, a literature review was conducted on polypropylene, single-use plastic pollution and additive production. Using both theoretical and practical methods, various strategies and techniques were investigated to address the recycling of single-use polypropylene containers for 3D printing. Then, a procedure/service was developed to recycle such plastic waste. This involved collecting waste on campus, separating it by packages, and then exposing it to heat treatment and extrusion to obtain filaments. The findings demonstrated the possibility of creating filaments from recycled polypropylene containers on campus.
