Abstract
Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) is the most abundant copper mineral, but has a low kinetic leaching in the acid medium. However, the production rate of chalcopyrite in sulfate-chloride media is also faster compared to sulfate-only media. The DIMM has studied in the last five years the contribution of the pretreatment of copper sulphide minerals on the kinetics. The pretreatment consists of mixing the mineral with solid NaCl, followed by humidification with refining solution and concentrated sulfuric acid, subject to the condition that the humidity does not exceed the value corresponding to the impregnation, leaving the material at rest between 7 and 60 days, depending on the metallic and non-metallic mineralogy. In practice it has been observed that, during heap leaching, pretreatment reports about 50% of dissolved copper. Considering the above, the objective of this thesis is to study the kinetic response of a mineral of chalcopyrite from mining Lomas Bayas, without and with chemical pretreatment. For this, the experimental technique developed by the DIMM called Maximum Extraction of Leaching Species (EMELA®) will be applied to determine the best pre-treatment conditions and their impact on agitated leaching. The pretreatment of this copper calcopyrite mineral(...).
