| dc.description.abstract | This thesis is part of a line of research conducted at the LEMCO laboratory of the Federico Santa María Technical University on reinforced concrete members with inclined stirrups subjected to seismic loading. Previous studies have shown that this arrangement better preserves the integrity of the concrete during large deformations; however, it has frequently been observed that it leads to fracture of the longitudinal bars, which is an undesirable type of failure. To address this problem and following the recommendations of previous thesis authors, some changes were made to the characteristics of the test specimens constructed for this study, deviating from standard practice, with the aim of achieving a better balance between the mechanical properties of the concrete and the steel. In this study, during the tests, the deformations of the longitudinal bars in the plastic hinge zone and at the anchorage were observed and measured using endoscopic cameras. These measurements make it possible to distinguish between the elongation of the bars and their slippage within the specimens—behaviors that cannot be identified solely based on the beam’s external movement and that, until now, were merely assumptions. To this end, six specimens representing the region of the beam near the column were fabricated and tested; of these, three had inclined stirrups and three had orthogonal stirrups. Two maintained the reference width from previous studies, and four had a reduced beam width. Additionally, concrete with lower strength than usual was used. Observation channels were incorporated into all specimens to allow cameras to be inserted into the areas of interest. The videos were processed using image-tracking software to determine (...). | en |
