Abstract

The proper study of in situ and induced stresses is essential to ensure good design and safety in underground mining. The best way to represent them is through the stress ratio K, which relates horizontal to vertical stresses and indicates the orientation in which maximum values could be found. In the current scenario, the stress ratio K is widely used to evaluate the stability of excavations to prevent failure or collapse of walls and columns. The presence of a pit on the surface causes a change in the stresses in the subway works, which can cause horizontal overstresses that put pressure on the sides and cause possible hang-ups. Following the same logic, this memory work aims to find the influence of a pit in the stresses of a subway environment, evaluating which parameters modify the stress state of the rock mass using the RS2 tool of Rocscience. In order to achieve the above objective, a previous study was carried out to estimate the variables that influence the increase of induced stresses, considering 3 possibilities: Geotechnical parameters, pit size and direction of excavation. The analysis carried out identified the geotechnical parameters that influence the occurrence of hang-ups, including UCS, GSI and mi, obtaining a percentage of influence in the first stages of excavation of 82%, 79% and 76% respectively, values that decreased as the excavation progressed. When evaluating the pit size, the percentage of stress increase was compared with the model without open pit, obtaining values before caving of 70%, 113% and 158%, for pits of 548m, 748m and 948m, respectively, for an in situ K ratio of 0.5. The percentages decreased as the excavation progressed or as the stress ratio increased. The last variable evaluated was the direction of excavation, which had a lesser influence on the stresses with respect to the previous parameters, reducing the stresses by approximately 20% when excavating in the opposite direction (from right to left). Finally, it is concluded that the pit has a direct influence on the subway stresses, which is reflected in the results of the variables studied.
