Thesis EFECTO DEL AFINADOR DE GRANO DXG-F7 EN LA CALIDAD DEL DEPÓSITO CATÓDICO DE COBRE(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) VILLALOBOS BASAEZ, JENNIFER IVONNE; VILLALOBOS BASAEZ, JENNIFER IVONNE; IPINZA ABARCA, JORGE; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA METALÚRGICA Y DE MATERIALES; IBAÑEZ RIVERA, JUAN PATRICIOIn the previous boom period, the highest price per pound of copper directed the attention only toward production, but now the fall observed in past few months presents a different scenario. In this scenario, the extra income for associated issues to cathodic quality become critical to the business. Obtaining cathodes with adequate physical and chemical quality is the combination between the process variables control and the electrowinning tank housekeeping. From this analysis, one can study the effects on the quality indexes produced by the anodes/cathodes deformation, the losses on its system, the development and permanence of shorts, anodic corrosion, among others. The grain growth control additives, normally vegetable proteins, are necessary because they control the nodules and dendrites growth in the copper deposit. Moreover, they must be added in adequate doses, in order to control the sulfur and lead quantity in the cathode. Most of these additives tend to degrade at temperatures above 50°C, these temperatures are required when the operation needs high current densities. In this context, we need to search a reagent with greater tolerance to temperature. It will be evaluated, on an industrial scale, the effects produce on the physical and chemical quality of the copper deposit on 316L stainless steel sheets, by the additive grain refiner type of dextrin (DXG-F7). The grain growth control additives were selected based on plant experience and industry benchmarking taking into account theoretical considerations. The effects were evaluated based on the overall appearance of the samples and other features. This study aimed a better quality electrodeposits than with the conventional grain growth additives. The grain growth control additives were selected based on the plant engineers experience and industry benchmarking taking into account technical considerations, such as the electrolyte composition and temperature. This thesis wants to provide a knowledge contribution, on an industrial scale, about the behavior in the use of grain refiner reagents.
