Thesis ESTUDIO DE ACCIONAMIENTO ELÉCTRICO PARA SISTEMA DE VENTILACIÓN EN MINA SUBTERRÁNEA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) Muñiz Parra, Jaime Gonzalo; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; JULIET AVILES, JORGE ANDRÉS; MORA CASTRO, ANDRÉS FELIPEMining is the engine of the economy in our country, where underground mines have become very important in the last decade. This due to lower grades of copper of open pit mines. Sernageomin requires to have the air flow necessary for the safety of the people working inside underground mines. That is why the ventilation system, studied in this paper, is a critical issue for mining companies. This report presents a technical and economic evaluation, that allow us to justify the option to control air flow of the ventilators of mine Punta del Cobre to different hours of day. For this it is proposed to use multilevel inverters, this for the advantages that this team has on respect of energy savings and control over motor operation. Where the results of the economic evaluation, with recovery times of two years and nine months, were satisfactory on a stage with lower copper prices. Are discussed some of the topologies of multilevel inverters utilized and existing mo- dulation techniques to obtain the voltage and frequency desired at the inverter output. The advantages and disadvantages of the equipment are presented more performing a technique comparison regarding them. Being the cascade multicell converter the equip- ment selected for the motor of fan. This due to its superior performance compared to other equipments, in relation to its reliability, simplicity, technical support and lower cost. One of the main objectives of this report is to analyze the interactions that occur between the inverter output and the motor, especially with potential problems that may arise. It studied the damage in the motor insulation due to overvoltages appearing at its terminals due the use of long cables, especially between coil ends. The problem by leakage currents also is analyzed, these circulate through different paths, including the existent bearings, caused by the occurrence of common mode voltages. To overcome these drawbacks some mitigation measures were indicated. Among this there are, in each case, technical solutions that relate to procedures and installation modes. Depending on the magnitude of the problem, different types of independent or combined filters are proposed. These were compared with a simulation in high frequencies. This allowed to define the type of filter to be used as part of the proposed change.Thesis ESTUDIO DE FACTIBILIDAD TECNICA DE CENTRAL HIDROELECTRICA LA MINA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) SOTO SEPÚLVEDA, PABLO ALBERTO; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; LEIVA BLANCO, NELSON; UBILLA SANCHEZ, GERMANIn order to exploit the water rights granted under applicable law by the General Department of Water to Colbún S.A., and after successfully passing the profile analysis to determine preliminarily the investment decision, is required to develop the Study Technical Feasibility of Hydroelectric Power Plant La Mina, to know with greater certainty the required equipment, the space required and sufficient quantities of works to budget and develop the later stages of the project. The overall objective of this paper is to provide a practical guide to the criteria used in the design feasibility of a hydroelectric plant, from the analysis of water resources to the selection, dimensioning and arrangement of main generating equipment, auxiliary systems and controThesis ESTUDIO DEL IMPACTO EN LAS EMISIONES DE CO2 EN EL SING BAJO DISTINTOS ESCENARIOS.(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2015) QUEZADA SANHUEZA, ROBIN ANDRÉS; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; GIL SAGÁS, ESTEBAN MANUEL; HINOJOSA MATEUS, VICTOR HUGOThis work studies the impact of carbon emissions in the Northern Interconnected System (SING) considering several scenarios of Non-Convencional Renewable Energy (NCRE) and emission reduction schemes, such as taxation over those and restriction on the quantity of emissions. Three scenarios of generation are defined: The first one - i.e. the IET base scenario - is defined as a scenario with a low penetration of NCRE, created under law 20257, specified in the October 2012 proposal of expansion of the SING. The second scenario, i.e. the 20/20 scenario, is based on a bill that proposed that 20% of the energy generated by 2020 came from non conventional renewable sources. The last scenario, i.e. scenario 20/25 is based on law 20698, (currently in force) which specifies that 20% of the energy generated by 2025 must come from non conventional renewable sources. CO2 unitary emission intensities are calculated for each of the generating units of the SING, in accordance with the level 1 methodology of the IPCC. Once the generation scenarios to take into consideration in this study have been defined, and the unitary emissions of the plants have been calculated, three situations are simulated: In the first place the economic operation of the SING is simulated with each of the three aforementioned scenarios; secondly, the economic operation of the SING is simulated, this time adding taxation to emissions generated by each plant. A range of taxes are calculated, starting at USD 5 per ton, up to USD 90 per ton of emissions. Finally, the restriction on the level of emissions permitted is simulated for each of the three scenarios, based on the quantity of emissions obtained in the previous case, where taxes were applied to emissions. Once the simulations have been run, the level of emissions obtained is analyzed; the marginal cost on bus Crucero 220; total generating costs of the system, separated in each of its components, such as fuel, operation and maintenance, costs of powering on and off the units, reserve costs, emission costs, non-served energy costs, non-served energy and energy generated by fuel. This is done for all three cases in each of the three scenarios previously defined. The simulation of case studies defined in this project is carried out with Plexos. Thesis ESTUDIO TÉCNICO ECONÓMICO PARA LA IMPLEMENTACIÓN DEL MÉTIDO VPI, APLICADO A LA FABRICACIÓN DE TRANSFORMADORES SECOS EN SCHAFFNER S.A.(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) TRUJILLO ARMIJO, BRUNO ANDRÉS; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; RIOS VIELMA, JAVIER IGNACIO; MONTAÑA CHAPARRO, JOHNY HERNÁNSchaner S.A. It is in process of OHSAS 18001 certi cation; and evaluated the possibility to manufacture dry transformers up to 15kV class. The current process for applying varnish to the coils used in the factory has many limitations to comply with these two objectives of the company. The current method is immersion, which consists in immersing the part of these transformers in a steel tank with varnish. This method does not achieve levels dielectric, thermal, mechanical adequate to produce transformers up to 15kV class. Currently transformers are manufactured to 8,7kV class, which considerably reduces the range of dry type transformers built and oered by Schaner and must purchase dry transformers in the international market and contract laboratory services so as to meet the standards and requirements. That is why it is essential to investigate and implement an impregnation process to improve the quality of insulation and allow to increase the voltage class of dry transformers, in addition to a safe, automatic and hermetic process. The VPI is a system method for applying varnish or resin impregnation technique using vacuum and pressure, and introduces the advantage to penetrate all areas of the coil and core compared to traditional methods. The varnish or resin permeates the entire machine protecting the external environment, strengthening the insulation between coils and insulation between core and coils, linking all parts of the machine vibration and noise reducing transformer. Internally eliminates the air spaces in coils, thereby improving the heat exchange from the inside of the coil due to the better thermal conductivity of varnishes and resins, and most importantly reduces the existence of vacuoles, which avoids concentrations electric eld withstanding higher voltage levels and greater protection to overvoltages. A variety of resins and varnishes for use VPI, the resin must be selected that meets the technical requirements of dry transformers, which are economical, with low costs during the process as well as its maintenance. It should be taken into account the origin of the goods and if their production meets environmental regulations. The VPI system manufactures and markets on demand in dierent parts of the world. On-site Schaner SA, there is a company of the group, called Hidropack that manufactures and builds uid control systems, ponds damping water hammer, etc. There are all technical conditions necessary to build the VPI system. The objective of this report is to gather information on the resin impregnation and vacuum pressure applied to dry transformers, resins and varnishes available, then set the criteria of quality of the nished product and the evidence necessary to analyze and evaluate the approval of degree impregnation and nally evaluate the technical and economic VPI project, selecting the most suitable and convenient alternative for implementation in Schaner.Thesis IMPACTO DE LAS RESTRICCIONES OPERACIONALES EN LA SUFICIENCIA DEL SING ANTE DIFERENTES NIVELES DE PENETRACIÓN EÓLICA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) ARIAS CASTRO, FRANCISCO MIGUEL; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; GIL SAGÁS, ESTEBAN MANUEL; HINOJOSA MATEUS, VICTOR HUGOThis project studies changes in the operation of the SING under the consideration of several constrains, such as minimum stable level, minimum up times and loading ramps, also the influence of new wind farms. These considerations strongly influence on the operation of the system, since SING is almost entirely operated by conventional thermal plants, which is why regulatory flexibility and capacity of the system is reduced considerably from a system that has hydropower plants. SING operation is analyzed for its operating costs and adequacy metrics for 200 samples of forced outputs rate from the generating units. The operation of the system is analyzed with and without the transmission system, observing the sensitivity of the operation, in relation to the changes of spinning reserve in the system. It is noted that by incorporating the transmission system, the operation becomes less sensitive to variation in reserve levels. The minimum stable level constraint has the big impact on this analysis, since it restricts the operating point of the generators. It is established as the appropriate level of reserves 400MW, which corresponds to the maximum value of generation of the largest unit of the system. For proper operation of the system with the NCRE, it is required an adequate wind resource forecasting to make an optimum unit commitment of the other units in the system. To do this, it is use a BoxJenkins model, SARIMA(1; 0; 1)(1; 1; 1)24 and it makes a forecast of wind speed. Next, the model has to transform the wind forecasting to electrical power through a power-speed curve so that the forecast of the 4 wind farms is obtained The variation of wind penetration is simulated taking into account an amplification scalability factor, which reflects the size of the wind farm necessary for the better use of the wind resource. Once forecasts and profiles are generated, wind generation is added to the SING. This is done considering two distinct situations. First, the wind unit connected to the 220kV Crucero substation. Secondly, 4 plants connected in different parts of the SEP. The nominal power for both cases varies from 0 to 3000MW. It is determined that a system containing a wind diversified resource geographically, is less affected by the uncertainty of the wind resource considering similar levels of wind penetration. Subsequently, it is observed the effect that it has on the operation of the system and the sufficiency of the SING (considering wind power), the withdrawal of a conventional unit, CTH. It is observed that a decrease in the generation, not directly imply a decrease in the sufficiency of the system because the reserve may be overestimated. In terms of adequacy, 165MW power plant is similar to a wind farm of 600MW effect.Thesis MODELAMIENTO DEL SISTEMA INTERCONECTADO CENTRAL PARA ESTUDIOS DE PLANIFICACIÓN ELÉCTRICA CONSIDERANDO VALORIZACIÓN HIDROLÓGICA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) CÁRDENAS ZAMORANO, RAÚL ESTEBAN; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; GIL SAGÁS, ESTEBAN MANUEL; HINOJOSA CORTÉS, VÍCTOR MANUELThe Operations Department (DO) of the Independent System Operator of the Central Interconnected System, CDEC SIC, in accordance with DS 291/2007 is responsible to \perform generation scheduling for short, medium and long-term operational planning and communicate it to the Dispatch and Control Center". This task is entrusted to the Operations Planning Department (hereinafter DPO). The objective of the present work is to address the problems associated to the short-term planning at the SIC. Computational tools are required to keep the global security of supply and guarantee the most economic operation schedule of the system. These tools are needed to make technical and economic evaluations in a way that ensures con dence and eciency in their results. The constant expansion of the systems requires improvements and continuous updates in data, methods and procedures to accomplish the functions of any Independent Systems Operator like the CDEC SIC. The main goal of this Thesis is to provide a new tool to the DPO, which needs to be simple, practical and provide accurate results to resolve the daily programming problem, and to be computationally ecient. The proposed tool models the Unit Commitment (UC) problem to minimize the total operation cost of the system using a Priority List allocation method. By making use of commercial solvers and current computational power, the program was developed using a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation. In addition, the data management in CDEC SIC is based in Excel worksheets, so all the inputs and output information of the model will be performed using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in future developments this could change to another language. Given the data structure of the UC problem, the code will be programmed through Object-oriented programming methodology provided by Python and, more speci cally, by Pyomo, which is a open source software package that supports a diverse set of optimization capabilities for formulating optimization problems using a Algebraic Modeling Language (AML). Considering a practical approach for this model, mathematical formulation will consider only constraints used in a daily basis to make the generation schedule for the next few hours, some of these will be: multi-nodal load supply, network topology constraints, hydro and thermal generation limits, and operational restrictions. In order to verify the usefulness of this development tool, it is contrasted against real daily programs. It was observed that in problems with a time horizon of one day, the resolution time was less than a minute, which apparently could mean an improvement to the established procedure, at the same time, lower operations costs are reached than the actual heuristic method. All results achieved by the present work would allow the intensive use of this program in the future and a further development in other areas of short-term planning for CDECSIC.Thesis MODERNIZACIÓN DE ACCIONAMIENTO DE TRACCIÓN PARA LOCOMOTRAS DIESEL ELÉCTRICAS QUE EMPLEAN MOTORES DE TRACCIÓN DE CORRIENTE CONTINUA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2015) González Jara, Andrés Antonio; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; JULIET AVILES, JORGE ANDRÉS; FUENTES FUENTEALBA, RICARDO ARMANDOThis dissertation is written in order to develop an alternative to modernization of a Diesel-electric locomotive with DC motors drive. For this, the tools of power electronics are used. The improving of system efficiency is considered as the main design criterion, particularly the efficiency of fuel utilization, which in this case is the source of energy. This document is divided into six chapters dealing with the following topics: In chapter 1 the current operating condition and the new proposed drive are presented. In chapter 2 efficiency of drive power plant is reviewed, especially the factors affecting fuel consumption of engine generator group. In chapter 3 the characteristics are studied in order to correctly model one of the key components in the performance of the drive: the battery bank, which serves as energy storage in the drive. In chapter 4 is analyzed the autonomy of travel of the locomotive for a given path and its relationship to the dimensioning of the drive components. In chapter 5 a practical example is reviewed and verified by simulation results. Finally, in chapter 6 results and possible developments that could be generated from the proposed are analyzed.Thesis REHABILITACIÓN Y PUESTA EN MARCHA PLANTA DE CHANCADO DE RIOLITA, PROYECTO EBPE IV, MINERA ESCONDIDA(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) RIQUELME SILVA, CARLOS HERNÁN; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE INGENIERÍA ELÉCTRICA; LEIVA BLANCO, NELSON; RIOS VIELMA, JAVIER IGNACIOCarrying out the project of Minera Escondida, called textit Escondida Bioleach Extension Pad fourth stage known as EBPEIV.
