MODELACIÓN NUMÉRICA DE UNA CHIMENEA SOLAR PARA SISTEMAS EÓLICOS DE BAJA POTENCIA

The purpose of this project is to create and optimize the design of a small scale solar tower for research and teaching purposes. The goal is to design a system which maximizes the energy extraction with a wind turbine located at in the solar tower. This is done by using the ANSYS-fluent software, and four field variables were analyzed: velocity, pressure, temperature and density. The project consists of four phases: conceptual development of the design, model accuracy optimization, design optimization and adding a wind turbine to the model. The final results of the fourth phase support a running solar tower, but since this is a small scale solar tower, the power output on optimum conditions is about 0,0127 kWh a day, not enough to be an economically sustainable project. However, since the goal of the project is teaching and research, its construction is not rejected.
