Thesis A MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL MODEL FOR MULTIPLE COLLISIONS OF RIGID BODIES: ANEXTENSION OF A-CD2 METHOD(2016) LEON VASQUEZ, ROBERTO JESUS; SALINAS CARRASCO, LUIS; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM INFORMATICAAn extension of a mathematical model and a computational simulation for multiplecollisions of rigid bodies is presented in this work. The A-CD2 method gives a mechanical description for instantaneous collisionsbetween rigid bodies. The solution of a constrained optimization problem is requiredfor obtaining the new velocities of the rigid bodies after collision. The extension includes the use of the Euler equations for modeling the angularvelocities, this produces a non constant angular velocities when the moments ofinertia are different. If the moments of inertia are equal, we obtain the constantangular velocity solution. The extension considers also a reduction in the computational complexity of theoriginal algorithm. The computational complexity has been reduced from an O(N2)algorithm to an O(N) algorithm. This reduction allows to handle problem 20 timeslarger than the original implementation. Finally, numerical simulations for a shock-absorber structure, a rockslide realevent and granular layers motion are presented.
