Thesis MONITOREO EN TIEMPO REAL DE CULTIVOS HIDROÓNICOS MEDIANTE UNA RED DE SENSORES INALÁMBRICOS(Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, 2016) HOMES OVANDO, ALEJANDRO ALBERTO; HOMES OVANDO, ALEJANDRO ALBERTO; VALLEJOS CAMPOS, REINALDO ANTONIO; Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria UTFSM DEPARTAMENTO DE ELECTRONICA; CARAGATA , DANIELThis work aims to design hardware and software implemented in hydroponic crops monitoring. The term practice refers to something that will be inexpensive, easy to build and fault tolerant, while monitoring refers to measuring temperature and relative humidity in real time. Therefore, the product is a tool designed for the new farmers of the present time, who seek to increase production per hectare for the growing demand in the food industry, as the population growth is estimated to be of 9,600 million people in the year 2050. To carry out this project, Internet of Things (IoT) is used as the main technology, applied to a specific sector of hydroponic agriculture. The use of this type of technology has the advantages that it collects real-time information for customers about the environmental variables of their crops; generating alerts upon the occurrence of some abnormality and can also detect potential plant diseases, analyzing the environmental variables. However, it has some disadvantages that should be considered: the cost of the technology, mainly by the initial investment; and the barrier to use new technologies, which becomes a design challenge for the user’s experience, so that the customer feels he is using a friendly platform. The work is implemented in a hydroponic farm located in Villa Alemana, Valparaiso, Chile. At the selected location, functional and usability testes were performed, that means that the product was technically and commercially validated. Before working with the product, the farmer has to measure manually, for this, he uses a thermometer and a template, these measurements are performed 2-3 times per day, they must be very cautious and spend several hours of their time to record the variables, especially when trending graphs or viewing historical data is required. At the current date, several companies have emerged that have applied IoT in various industries and with various applications, agriculture is no exception. One of the distinguishing features of this solution is creating our own electronic boards that can be adapted to any other solution. When creating these boards it is possible to reach a deep understanding of how the parts of other manufacturer operate and after this develop a new personal product.
