Departamento de IndustriasThis work was developed in a company that is dedicated to the export of fresh fruit, Exportadora Río Blanco Ltda. The objective concerns the development of a quality management model, focused on suppliers of packaging materials, to improve the performance of the production chain. Project development is presented in its early stages and how is projected with interesting perspectives, with a geographical reach from the III to VI regions of Chile. A Quality Management Model associated with packaging material suppliers was developed. Its main components are visits to suppliers and packings where the products packaging is done; control arrays allows a number of steps of sampling, monitoring and inspection; a measurement and testing system based on the zonal warehouses and a Quality Control Laboratory of Materials covering the main critical variables of each packaging material under study. The main results can be noted that in the last season the 100% of the Río Blanco´s grape boxes arrived successfully to distant markets. Concrete improvements have also been achieved in various packaging materials like plastic bags, which minimized the waste of products and time by 50%, and palletizing problems in the packings were reduced about 80%.
