Thesis CONTROL Y MINIMIZACIÓN DEL RIPPLE DE VOLTAJE EN CONVERTIDORES MULTINIVEL MODULARES(2018) Arredondo Quintana, Victor Andres; Departamento de Electrónica; Perez Leiva, Marcelo Alejandro; Kouro Renaer, Samir FelipeModular multilevel converters generate high voltage ripple in the floatingcapacitors which increases the harmonic content of arm voltages and currentsand consequently the losses and can degrade the control performance. In order toreduce this voltage ripple, a large capacitance is usually employed, but the size andcost of the submodules and the whole converter are increased. In the MMC, all submodules have a floating capacitor, whose voltage must becontrolled to an average value to generate symmetric voltage levels at the output. Due to the interaction between modulation signals and arms currents,a voltage ripple in the floating capacitor is produced, increasing the losses and distortion of arm current and voltage and reducing the control performance. In this tesis the voltage ripple is analyzed using a decoupled power approachand the circulating current and common-mode voltage required to minimize speci charmonic components of this voltage are obtained. A control design based on the capacitor ripple analysis is proposed and simulation results which validates the analysis and the controller design are shown.
