Datacenters are closed physical spaces that must comply with a series of technical characteristics to accommodate the computational equipment that processes the data of the organizations. Because data centers are large heat generators, it takes a lot of energy to run at the right temperature. The use of renewable energy, both solar photovoltaic and wind energy also allows the availability of electricity at low cost, as well as significantly reduce pollution and emitted CO2. This work contains the analysis of the technical feasibility of incorporating solar generation technology, specifically through photovoltaic panels connected to the grid, to generate energy and to self-consume it in a datacenter to be built in the city of Tocopilla. In the development of this thesis will analyze the legal framework specifically Law 20,571 that allows the customers of the distributors to generate through ERNC or energy efficiency. Through the software Retscreen will evaluate the base case that is to take the distribution network all the energy needed for the operation of the datacenter and as a case study generation with photovoltaic panels. After the development and analysis it is concluded that it is technically feasible to implement photovoltaic generation for self consumption up to 100 kWh, which is the limit imposed by law 20.571 and the payback of the investment is 5 years corresponding to one third of the useful life of the project.
