The main purpose of this report is to evaluate the technical economic prefeasibility of a forest fire extinguisher airline company. This idea starts because of the rise in prices of the cellulose, so there is a necessity of investing more resources to protect the raw materials, which in this case are the plantations. Currently, there are 22 authorized companies to extinguish fires in Chile which have 87 aircrafts. The Chilean market invests USD 0.26 per hectare, while industrialized countries invest about USD 0.52 per hectare. In addition to it, there is an increase of 5 hours in flights a year per every aircraft that extinguishes forest fires, an also the increase of 120.000 hectares per year of irrigated fields. The project seeks to cover a 4.5% of the national market, which is covered neither by national nor international operators presently. For this purpose, there will be three AIR TRACTOR AT - 802F aircrafts, and one of them will be two-seater for tasks of coordination. Every aircraft has a CIF value of USD 1.482.850 and the two-seater aircraft has a CIF value of USD 1.512.350. The cost of an hour-flight is USD 2.500; we have to add to this the cost of the Stand by day which is of USD 1000. Moreover, it is necessary to include USD 2000 and UD 2550 which correspond to the over day and the overtime respectively. The project will be located in the Bío-Bío region of Chile, specifically in the María Dolores aerodrome (SCGE) which is in the first rate class (C) in the aerodromes classification. The sum total destined to invest is of USD 4.934.842,92 with a working capital of USD 166.286,95; and start-up costs of USD 248.747,00 in all. Based on all the information above, the following results are obtained in the financial indicators for the project in its whole form or without financing with a discount rate of 15%: VAN= US -1.230.962,85; TIR= 10,45% and PAYBACK= 9 periods. For the 75% financed project with a discount rate of 15%, it is obtained the following results: VAN= USD -55.139,09; TIR= 14,59% and PAYBACK= 7 periods. Then, with all the information obtained it can be said that from the technical, operational, legal and administrative point of view, Chile has all the possibilities for this sort of company to operate in this market. However, from the financial point of view the project could not be feasible because of not being appealing to the investors. Considering the financed project, it would reach the minimum level of profitability that the investors demand. It should suffice to do some slight changes in its structure, and the more advisable changes are to reduce the investment in 1.46% or to increase the value of the flight-hour in 1.0004%; these are two absolutely feasible options.CD ROMesEstudio de factibilidadIncendios forestalesEvaluación de proyectosOperaciones aéreasOportunidad de negocio en la creación y operación de una empresa aérea de extinción de incendios forestales.
