The aim of this study is developing multiple machine learning models capable of predicting the behavior of electrical power draw for SAG mills installed in three different processing lines, using information and data obtained from Los Pelambres mine. The ultimate motivation of this project is to investigate the feasibility of a hypothetical implementation of this kind of tools in the industry, or if unfeasible, to better understand the shortcomings and requirements. To achieve the objective, the following predictor variables were chosen: work index, daily processed tonnage, target P80, percentage of solids and mill rotation speed. Four algorithms were selected for model creation: Multiple linear regression, K-Nearest neighbor, Random forest and Gradient boosting. Subsequently, the results were compared using the value of the root mean square error (RMSE) and the correlation index between the predicted and actual variable. The best results for SAG lines 01 and 02 were obtained using the Random forest algorithm, which reached an RMSE of 6.27% and an 2 of 0.519 (for SAG01), and an RMSE of 5.09% and 2 of 0.598 (for SAG02). On the other hand, for SAG03 case, Gradient boosting (XGBoost) achieved the best performance, with an RMSE of 4.92% and an 2 of 0.465. Finally, upon analyzing the used variables and the results of the models, it is concluded that although the predictions were satisfactory with relative errors close to 6% of the target variable average, most of their accuracy is due to the “mill rotation speed” input, a variable that is not enough anticipated during mill operation. Therefore, estimations without considering this variable are not reliable enough to implement them in the supervision or control of this stage of mineral comminution. However, guidelines are suggested to advance towards the development of more suitable models for this purpose.84 páginasesAprendizaje automáticoPredicción de potencia eléctricaMinería inteligenteCreación de modelos de aprendizaje automático para la predicción de potencia en molino SAG a partir de índices de conminución del mineral y otras variables operacionalesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess3560902039791
