The COVID-19 pandemic provided a large number of physical distancing measures such as restricting activities and traffic in the different cities of the country, maximum capacity, quarantine and curfews. This implementation made it possible to study the effects of quarantine on air quality in localities with high pollution indexes, as is the case of the city of Temuco. The city of Temuco, located in the southern part of Chile in the Araucanía region, has become known for its poor air quality due to high concentrations of fine and coarse particulate matter. Its environmental problems arise, especially in winter, due to the excessive use of firewood for heating. In the present research, a comparison of the concentrations of particulate matter (fine and coarse) in April 2020 (quarantine year) and during the same period in the years 2016 to 2019 is carried out. Monthly hourly data were obtained from the monitoring stations Las Encinas Temuco (LET) and Padre Las Casas (PLC) of the National Air Quality Information System (SINCA) and worked with a certainty of 95%.es_CL
