This work was born from the idea of improving the basic, and almost null effort, that we have as a country and as individuals in the recycling and management of household solid waste, in order to complement the small changes that have been devised and carried out in recent years as a country and society. This project is developed in order to design a plan to optimize the recycling of household solid waste in the commune of La Reina, Santiago, Chile, based on a study and research on the habits of the population, the dissemination of information and the operation of green and clean points, and therefore the recycling plan of the commune in general, in order to reduce waste production and increase waste recycling in this commune. This was carried out through four stages, namely: (a) Establish a contrast between the current recycling plan of the commune La Reina with recycling plans of other communes and regions at international level, (b) Study of the habits of the population of the commune La Reina, (c) Design a proposal to improve current recycling plans of the commune La Reina and (d) Identification of the proportionality between the increase in the amount of recycling and the economic benefits, employment generation and environmental impact that could be achieved. At the end of the execution of these four stages, it became evident that, although the inhabitants of the La Reina commune are willing to carry out waste recycling activities according to the results of the survey conducted, this contradicts the current performance statistics in this area that are kept by the municipality and environmental ministries. This can be translated into a deficient and ineffective collection plan, which leads to discontent and apathy among citizens. It is proposed to improve the existing recycling plan in the commune through the implementation of policies related to greater regularization and control of the activity and remuneration of the same, as well as greater investment in equipment that allows the collection of waste from households in a timely manner. A better and clearer dissemination and obtaining of information for the neighbors of the commune is also postulated, because as it could be observed and evidenced in the surveys, this point in general is a great obstacle at the moment of wanting to carry out and execute in the best way the recycling activity in the homes.es_CL
