DISEÑO, CONSTRUCCIÓN Y PUESTA EN MARCHA DE UN SISTEMA DE MUESTREO TERMOFORÉTICO PARA PARTÍCULAS EN EL ESCAPE DE MOTOR DIESEL
Abstract
The study of the morphological properties and physicochemical characteristics of particulate matter contributes to better understand the mechanisms of formation of this aerosol, in a Diesel engine for example, and its journey through the exhaust pipe before mixing with the air that human beings breathe. The purpose of this Thesis is to design, build and implement a particle sampling system of Particulate Matterfor a Diesel engine, where the capture of these particles is done by thermophoretic deposition in a copper gravimetric mesh. Thus, these particles can be studied later in an Electronic Transmission Microscope and be characterized. This work is developed in a collaboration between the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, the University of Antioquia in Colombia and the Federico Santa María Technical University in Chile, in which a thermophoretic particle sampling system constructed at the University of Castilla-La Mancha is redesigned. The objective at the University of Antioquia is to compare different methods of particle sampling of particulate matter while in Chile it is sought to capture the particles by the method used in Spain and then be characterized in a high resolution microscope.
