Faced with a simple problem of building a horizontal plane, there are a variety of systems and materials in Valparaíso with which to solve it. The construction of a horizontal plane is essential for the habitability of a complex topography such as the one present in the ravines of Valparaíso. There is no record regarding the materials and construction systems to build the horizontal plane, so it can be useful for architects and builders to gather information on the current state of the podiums in the ravines. The objective of this work is to classify the tectonic podiums, by means of a typological analysis that characterizes its shape and structural composition. To this end, the research question is the following: Is it possible to typify the morphological, material and structural characteristics that make up the tectonic podiums of the houses in the ravines of the city of Valparaíso?The research question is answered through typological analysis, with the observation being the main method of collecting information on the tectonic podiums of the houses present in the year 2019. The answers obtained are two typologies. The first is the morphology of the site, whose multiple forms found on the ground are reduced to three types: full slope, flat terrain and mixed terrain. The second is the characterization of structural systems, classifying them into three levels of deepening: materiality, structural system (skeleton or framework) and structural reinforcements. By crossing both types, a great extension of types can be achieved, although a third typology is not created from the first two, if a group of strategies can be developed to compose the podiums in the ravines.Since this work is a first approximation to the study of the ways to build the horizontal plane in the valleys of Valparaíso, it opens the way to other focuses of podium analysis such as; volumetric morphologies, structural profiles, constructive unions, structural design criteria, programmatic uses among others. The typological study, being of a qualitative nature, leaves the numerical analysis of the mechanics of the structures pending, an important point if you want to make a catalog of solutions of tectonic podiums in steel and reinforced concrete. The methodology of typological analysis developed in this work, is not limited to the study of tectonic podiums, it can be used in the analysis of other types of structures, be they envelopes, roofs and foundations.eng
