Lithium-ion batteries have a high energy density although limited power storage. Thislimits the regenerative braking because the battery is not able to store all the power. Thesupercapacitors, on the other hand, have a high power density and low energy density, sothis storage system is capable of storing regenerative braking. In this work, the aim is todesign and control a bidirectional DC-DC converter for a hybrid system between lithium-ionbattery and supercapacitors for an electric vehicle. By means of the control of a DC-DCconverter one looks for to handle the power that receives the battery and the supercapacitors,to maintain the battery at optimal levels de ned by the manufacturer. This work presents a state of the art of electric vehicles, batteries, supercapacitors andDC-DC converters for the hybrid system. Energy storage (batteries and supercapacitors) aremodeled, de ning their operation levels and nally simulations are carried out in Plecs tocheck their operation. Subsequently, the converter is designed for the power levels requiredby the application, corroborating its operation in open loop simulations in Plecs. Afterthis a model of the converter is obtained to be able to tune the system's controllers. Finally, simulations are carried out in Plecs of the integrated system for different drivingmaneuvers of the vehicle, such as accelerations, braking, overtaking, ascents, descents andthe stopped vehicle. For this use an equivalent model of an electric vehicle, lithium-ionbatteries, supercapacitors and the converter are used.eng
