This research work makes a comparison between a wave farm and a tidal farm, bymeans of a technical-financial pre-feasibility study. The focus is the product of the globalenergy framework, which seeks to optimize the processes of obtaining energy, throughplants without GHG emissions and with low environmental and social impact. Togetherwith this global objective, the composition and reliability of the Chilean energy matrix, which aims to be in the near future only based on renewable resources, is added. The research begins by detailing and classifying existing technologies according toprinciples of energy capture and location. Subsequently, the possible locations to install theplants were analyzed, considering the available resource, depth, distance to the coast andports, among others. The installed capacity was considered to be 10.5 MW. Then the initial, annual and reinvestment costs for each project were estimated, in addition to commonfinancial parameters such as discount rate, inflation, debt ratio, etc. With this information, through the RETScreen software, both projects were evaluated obtaining GHG emissionsreduction, profitability indicators and annual flows. Also within the program, sensitivityand risk analyzes were performed with 5,000 scenarios. The reduction of GHG emissions is 8,279 tCO2 for the wave farm and 3,484 tCO2for the tidal farm, generating a positive impact on the environment. On the other hand, financial results showed that none of the plants is profitable under current costs, consideringa project life of 20 years. The wave farm obtained a NPV of -5;2 * 10^6 USD and the tidalfarm of -4;7 * 10^6 USD, both IRRs were negative and the repayment of capital exceeded20 years in the two cases. These values are based on the embryonic state in which thesetechnologies are found worldwide, caused by low research and development in the area, high costs and the complex oceanic environment.eng
