Variable stars have been studied extensively during the last decades, achieving great advances that have helped to understand stellar evolution and generate a well-defined taxonomy for these. However, there are variable stars of low amplitude that are only identifiable in the long period. Which have been little studied, due to the difficulties of acquisition and processing of time series at high temporal scales, thus leaving a large amount of information without studying and the question of why this behavior occurs. On the other hand, the use of machine learning techniques has been widely accepted for the study of short-period variable stars by automating their classification and facilitating the work of astronomers and astrophysicists. Therefore, it is expected that this type of techniques can be very useful to help study this behavior in a long period. In this work a process is proposed that automates the classification of variable stars of long period. This process consists of two major stages, where the first consists of identifying the stars that exhibit this behavior, while the second part consists of making a classification based on the behavior of the various characteristics that they may have. Clustering algorithms can be useful to perform this classification, finding patterns according to the behavior of these. Using the K-means algorithm and considering as a basis the characteristics that are used for the elaboration of the H-R diagram, it was possible to find a total of 6 clearly defined groups.en
