| es_CL |
dc.description.abstract | The Teniente converter is used in the smelting stage in most of Chilean smelters,
obtaining a matte with high copper grade (70-75 wt%) and low iron content (2-5
wt%). The matte is fed to a Peirce Smith oven, where a single stage conversion is
performed, instead of the two-stage conventional conversion. As a result of the direct
to blister copper conversion, a series of operational problems occur, due to the
presence of solid phase in the slag.
In this study, 15 experiments where conducted at 1200ºC to determinate the effect
of CaO on the fluidity properties of the slag phase. Of the 15 experiments, nine where
carried out in the tridymite saturated region and six in the delaffosite/spinel saturated
region.
Results indicate that when working in the tridymite primary phase field, an increase
in the concentration of CaO present in the liquid phase moves the liquidus lines
towards the SiO2 apex of the diagram. This is only observed in experiments with a
concentration of CaO up to 6 wt%.
Results obtained when working in the delaffosite primary phase field are not reliable
due to the presence of Cr2O3 and Al2O3 in the liquid and spinel phase. A tendency
in the points obtained cannot be identified. | en |
