ESTUDIO NUMÉRICO DEL EFECTO DEL ÍNDICE DE OXÍGENO EN LA PRODUCCIÓN DE HOLLÍN DE LLAMAS LAMINARES DE DIFUSIÓN DE ETILENO CON MODELO SECCIONAL DE AEROSOLES
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is, for one side, to investigate the capability of a (PAH)-basedsectional soot production model in laminar coflow ethylene diusion flames. Dierentoxygen concentrations in the oxidant stream, called Oxygen Index (OI), are studied rangingfrom 17% to 33%. For other side, this study is intended to analyze the soot precursorsresponsible of the increase observed in both terms of soot formation and destruction ratesby increasing the OI. The soot production model considers a nucleation and condensationvia heavy PAH, surface growth and O2 oxidation via the HACA mechanism, oxidation byOH, and fragmentation of the soot aggregates.Model predictions are compared with previously-published experimental data andnumerical predictions obtained with acetylene-based soot production model [Comb. Flame160: 786-795 (2013)]. The PAH-based soot model improve the predictions obtained withthe acetylene-based soot model. Results indicate that flame structure, soot volume fractionand integrated soot volume fraction are in good agreement with the experimental datawhatever the OI considered. An analysis of the model results show that the temperatureand the concentration of the soot precursors increase with the OI, leading to higher sootnucleation, condensation and surface growth rates. The zone of influence of the integratedrate of soot formation does not increase with the OI, as opposed to the integrated rate ofsoot oxidation, which increases its zone of influence.Nucleation and condensation are mostly dependent on BGHIF and BAPYR speciesvariations, condensation being also aected by the increase in the specific soot surfacearea. Nucleation is the production process that presented the biggest increase with OI. Thecondensation process dominates along the centerline of the flame, while the surface growthdominates along the flame wings, whatever the OI considered. Surface growth is mainlycontrolled by acetylene concentration and kinetic rate, but also by the specific soot surfacearea. Oxidation by O2 is found to dominate at the top of the flame, while oxidation by OHis dominant at the middle height of the flame, independent of the OI. In addition, it is foundthat the oxidation rate by O2 increases more rapidly with the OI than the rate by OH.
