The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the constructive structural characteristics of Valparaíso Sporting Club, one of the first buildings built between the end of 19th century and middle of 20th century in Viña del Mar, coinciding with the beginnings of the city as a independent Municipality of Valparaíso, which was officially constituted on 30 of May of 1878. At the moment Hipódromo is the oldest equestrian enclosure of Latin America, therefore, conserves a valuable historical sample with a great influence in the consolidation of Viña del Mar like a city, and later as a recreational spot at the beginning of the 20th century. Two of the main buildings of Valparaíso Sports Club were designed by the architect Alfredo Azancot Levi (1866-1937), author of a series of buildings with great patrimonial value, both in Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. The used methodology was the analysis of the case. The study and recognition of the applied constructive systems in the field allowed for recognizing the qualities and attributes of the building, in order to limit the research area, according to construction systems of similar technical origin or similar cases. This analysis was complemented with primary and secondary sources that allowed for fully understanding the chronological conformation of the building, positioning the use of the mixed construction systems applied over time and recognizing the applied modifications to the formal models established in the construction of each stage. It is hoped that research will enrich the existing antecedents regarding the architects and the emblematic buildings builted at the beginning of the 20th century in Viña del Mar.eng
