Abstract
Despite the trend in some developed countries, Chile has not included programming coursesas part of the current high school program, being Information and Communication Technology(ICT) the only approach to tecnology that the students of this program have.Institutions and universities of the country are the ones that have realized programmingworkshops to promote computational thinking. Even though these activities have caughtgreat interest and participation, until this date, there hasn’t been any evaluation to knowhow these activities manage to develop this discipline. This study shows the design, execution and analysis of results of the progress in the computationalthinking of the scientific-humanistic high school’s students who have participatedthe programming course “Yo C Más” of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, SanJoaquín Campus, during 2017. A measurement instrument that included a computationalthinking test and questions that allowed to establish the educational reality in relation to ICTin the educational establishments of those students was applied. At the end of the study, the results showed that students increased their mastery of computationalthinking. In addition, it was possible to collect opinions on the significance thatstudents give to these activities and diagnose the current situation of computer education intheir schools.
